EXAMINATION GUIDE

TJS Dance Academy offers a vast array of classical ballet grades, suitable for every student, under the association of The Royal Academy of Dance. We believe it is vital for students to improve their dance technique through the available classical ballet classes offered at TJS, and although not compulsory from the age 14+, we encourage our dancers to participate, with the intention to motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities, outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement. (RAD, 2020). *Students taking part in this examination must attend their two compulsory graded ballet classes and one half an hour pointe class (Intermediate Foundation-Advanced 2) to learn their required syllabus.

RAD ballet classes are available in:

PRE-PRIMARY        5 min age (no pre-requisite)
PRIMARY     6 min age (no pre-requisite)
GRADES 1-3           7 min age (no pre-requisite)
GRADES 4-5           7 min age (no pre-requisite)
GRADES 6-8          11 min age (no pre-requisite)

R.A.D Exam Dates

R.A.D Ballet examinations normally take place at the end of August to the beginning of September. Unfortunately, TJS have no control over the selected dates and times issued for examinations, once the R.A.D has set the exact dates they are not able to be changed or re shuffled. As soon as dates and times are released you will be contacted. Any questions or queries please contact us, there is no need to call the R.A.D Headquarters personally for any issue as we will be sent all the information that is needed.

R.A.D Payments and Refunds

All Invoices for students wishing to partake in exams for 2021 will be invoiced out in Term 1. If you and your child are unsure about taking the exam, please contact Tarah before the due date to avoid confusion with costs. All invoices are to be paid on time to ensure your spot in the examination, if failed to do so your child will miss out on completing their exam in 2021 and will be unable to pursue to the higher grade the following year. If your child is sick or injured and unable to attend their examination, you are eligible for a 50% refund given you have a doctor’s certificate. This will be sent to the R.A.D to be approved.

R.A.D APP

R.A.D have developed an amazing app for our students to help them with the completion of their exams. The app allows the students to purchase their current syllabus to practice and revise at home, and the ability to write notes and corrections whilst practicing. This is an amazing tool to prepare and practice for your exams and highly recommended by the ballet team at TJS.

R.A.D Exam Attire

It is crucial that TJS students have the correct attire to complete their examinations. Please check the grade requirements below and feel free to contact with any queries or questions. We will have stock at the TJS Admin to purchase and suggest that this is sorted out early in the year to avoid anything selling out. You will reuse your exam wear from year to year, but we do know this can become quite costly. We will have exam attire and character skirts to hire at the admin if your student needs.

GRADED EXAMINATION UNIFORM

It is compulsory to have the correct attire for the R.A.D examinations.

Uniform can be purchased from BLOCH (bloch.com.au), TJS Admin or (if stated) will be provided by TJS.
Stock tend to fluctuate throughout the year and if anything is sold out it is likely to be restocked before October 2021.
